Abstract:

The article considers the possibilities and limitations when solving the task of year-round exploratory drilling at sea in the extreme conditions of the Russian Arctic. The authors substantiate the necessity of maintaining the pace of geological survey in oil and gas provinces of the Arctic and Far East followed by prospect drilling. They outline prospects of production drilling and shelf production projects in the Northern and Far Eastern seas of Russia. The authors conclude why the task of extending the drilling season in the Arctic, up to ensuring year-round operations depending on the region, due to be be solved in the next five years by implementing the domestic project to create an ice-resistant mobile drilling rig. The researchers have investigated the depths of licensed areas and all oil-and-gas promising structures in the Arctic and Far East of Russia, as well as analyzed ice and climatic conditions. They have evaluated the project costs, the sequence of their implementation in conformance with the needs of the state, the availability of technological solutions and environmental risks.
