Abstract:

About one third of the total area of the Arctic belongs to the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF). The Russian Arctic is characterized by extreme climatic conditions, the presence of diverse and significant reserves of mineral and other natural resources; concentration of objects of economy and social sphere in limited territories, remoteness and transport inaccessibility; extreme vulnerability and slow recovery of natural ecosystems.
