Abstract:

The article discusses the issues of managing the territories of traditional economic activity in the Arctic zone, taking into account the results of their resource assessment. The authors analyze the methods for resource assessment of reindeer pastures as the basis for reindeer husbandry — the main activity of indigenous peoples of the northern regions of Russia and other countries. Based on the main productivity indicator of reindeer pastures — reindeer capacity, they propose a classification of lands according to their economic value. The practical significance of the research results lies in the possibility of using them in justifying projects for the industrial development of the Arctic, in conducting market and cadastral assessments of Arctic territories, and in calculating compensation payments to communities of indigenous peoples of the North during the industrial development of the Arctic.
