Abstract: Regular commercial shipping along the Northern Sea Route dates back to 1920. From this time, the main stages of developing new shipping routes and extending navigation periods along the Northern Sea Route were determined by increasing the capacity of the icebreaking fleet. Currently, one of the most pressing tasks is to complete the development of a regulatory framework for using the state atomic icebreaking fleet to ensure the functioning of the Arctic sea transport system - the Northern Sea Route - in order to respect and protect Russia’s national interests in the Arctic.
