A.P. Lisitsyn is a specialist in the field of lithology and geochemistry of the sea and ocean bottom sediments. The main researches are focused on the study of the sedimentation patterns, the mechanism of the sedimentary process, the lithology of water, air and ice suspension, and hydrothermal processes at the ocean bottom. He developed new schools: the theory of suspended solid materials in the ocean, bio-differentiation of materials in the ocean, the regularities of the sedimentary process, avalanche and ice sedimentation; the decisive importance of the bios at all stages of sedimentation has been established.
Author of more than 500 scientific papers, including 31 monographs (he is the only author of 12 of them), 6 monographs in English and Japanese.
