Abstract:  Based on an analysis of in-situ measurements of water temperature, salinity, turbidity, solar radiation fluxes in the water column, and currents, the distribution patterns of wastewater and seawater in Blagopoluchiya Bay (Solovetsky Islands, White Sea) were identified. The bay’s water exchange period was estimated at 14 days during the open-water and over 30 days during the freeze-up period. For the enclosed bay, the effective horizontal turbulent diffusion coefficient, Kx, ~0.02 m2/s, was estimated, significantly lower than typical values for shelf seas. Possible mechanisms of water transport within the bay are considered.
